Comprehensive Reading
In the Comprehensive Reading course, students will acquire the capability to process a given text, understand its meaning in the context of a passage, and integrate it with previous knowledge. In addition, students will learn to follow the organization of the text, recognizing the literary devices, propositional structures, tone, understanding the situational moods, determining the writer’s purpose, and identifying the references and antecedents are also essential. The ability of a reader to comprehend the text influences his/her skills and competence to process information. If word recognition is hard, students may spend much of their processing capacities to read each word, which can directly interfere with their ability to understand what he/she is reading.
